Species belonging to the cypress genus have been part of several cultures since time immemorial. They honor death as a natural path to understanding the immortal nature of our soul. In the Iranian Muslim tradition, they are known to ward off evil spirits and are a symbol of hope for the bereaved.
Native to the Northwest Coast of North America, Nootka Cypress is a tree that usually grows in high mountains in inhospitable places that sometimes even reach the tree line. It can reach a height of 40 meters and 2 meters in diameter where there is sufficient humidity and the temperature is mild. In Quebec, it reaches 25 meters more often. Its hanging twigs are the result of a long evolution since the species has been subjected, over time, to long and harsh winters where the quantity of snow was very important. To avoid losing its branches, it adapted by deploying its twigs downwards.
This tree represents hope and adaptation.
