Funeral arrangement

What is a funeral arrangement
Planning a funeral arrangement is a gesture of peace and foresight. It means deciding the details surrounding your funeral in advance, in accordance with your values and to alleviate the emotional and financial burden on your loved ones.
Why make funeral pre-arrangements?
Preparing your funeral arrangement today has several significant advantages that can have a huge impact on your loved ones following your death.
Offer peace of mind to loved ones
Grieving will already be a difficult experience for your loved ones. Without pre-arrangement, you choose to expose them to having to make difficult choices to honor your life, all while being in a state of vulnerability. Making funeral arrangements is a choice that respects the loss that your loved ones will have to make.

Inflation protection
Inflation is an economic issue that affects all industries, including funeral services. Choosing to make your pre-arrangements today and pay now for your funeral services is suggested to obtain an advantageous price and services that are in balance with the benefits you want to use when you die.
Respect your wishes
Making funeral arrangements is the surest way to insure your wishes when you die. In fact, the Advance Arrangements Act regulates this sector and ensures compliance with established commitments, as well as the protection of amounts paid and deposited in trust.

The Régie des rentes du Québec (RRQ) does not directly cover payments for funeral pre-arrangements in the event of death. However, the RRQ offers a death payment, which is a benefit paid following the death of a person contributing to the Quebec Pension Plan. This amount can be used by beneficiaries, often family members or the estate, to cover funeral expenses, including funeral pre-arrangements.
RRQ death payment details:
- Lump sum: The maximum benefit is a fixed amount of up to 2,500 CAD. This amount is paid to the eligible person or persons (surviving spouse, heirs, or estate) and can be used for funeral expenses.
- Eligibility requirements: For this payment to be paid, the deceased person must have contributed to the Quebec Pension Plan for a certain number of years.
What the RRQ does not do:
- The RRQ does not directly manage funeral pre-arrangement payments or funeral expenses themselves.
- Funeral pre-arrangement contracts are usually covered by funeral service companies or private insurers.
Although the RRQ does not pay directly for funeral pre-arrangements, the RRQ death payment can be used to cover these expenses after the contributor dies. If pre-funeral arrangements have already been paid, this amount may help cover other expenses related to the death.
