The roots of its name come from the Greek words “Hama” (together) and “Mélis” (apple tree). Its name is probably due to the fact that the Virginia witch hazel lives in small, tightly woven groups near fruit trees, such as apple trees and other species that live in a soft and peaceful environment. We find the use of witch hazel among several peoples of the world. Among the aboriginal peoples of southern Quebec, it was used to make bowstrings and for its medicinal properties. The colonists used it to make all sorts of products such as brooms and other everyday objects.
It is a large shrub with flexible wood and slightly bent branches. He grows in groves because he likes to be surrounded by his family. The Virginia witch hazel is mainly distinguished by its particular flowering: a small yellow flower formed by four twisted petals, slightly fragrant. It flowers in the last months of autumn. When most forest inhabitants fall asleep for the winter, the Virginia Hamamelis offers us one last little piece of beauty to beautify the months of October and November.
This shrub represents cooperation and empathy.
