The bilobed Ginkgo is literally a living fossil! It appeared on Earth during the time of the dinosaurs. He didn't just hang out with them, he survived the mass extinction that got the better of them. It has a remarkable immunity to insects and diseases in addition to being extremely tolerant to pollution. In China and Japan, this tree is sacred, which is why it is planted in shrines and is nicknamed “Tree of the Sky.”
The history of the family to which the ginkgo belongs goes back over 200 million years. It is native to the mountains of China. It is easy to identify thanks to its fan-shaped leaves. Contrary to what one might think, Ginkgo is part of the same botanical group as conifers. However, it is a primitive conifer that produces male cones and free female eggs on the stems. In addition, its leaves are, in fact, needles that, in the course of evolution, have fused together. It can reach heights of up to 40 meters with a diameter of about 80 cm.
This tree is synonymous with hope and imperturbability.
